12th June
The great weather has continued, and everything is planted.
I direct sowed yellow carrots last week, and finished the very last small amount of squash plants that were left to be planted.
But with the great weather there is a big problem.
We have not had rain for four weeks, the forecast was for thunder storms this weekend the 10th and 11th, but it has changed to only 20% chance on Sunday for a couple of hrs.
Then its to be hot, hot, hot again, with not a lot of rain in the forecast.
The main field crops are looking okay.
But all the squash plants are really suffering.
We must lay bio degradable mulch film, usually to retain heat in the soil and to block out the weeds.
We also must fleece them or the crows pull them out to get the grubs under the plants.
So, I have a 1200 litre water tank, which we are going to fill and somehow try and get water to them, unfortunately they are far too far away from the tunnels to irrigate them.
Fingers crossed it rains.
