14th October

It is the October school holidays, and there were Jobs for Erin and Calum.

Pumpkin time, they love getting the Pumpkins out of the field and ready for Pumpkin day selling.

But the weather Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were wet.

Thursday arrived and the weather was dry, and a nice frosty start.

It was a wee bit cold for out in the field first thing, so I had a nice warm job to start the morning and clear the lungs.

Last week we got ten tonnes of nice warm steamy compost delivered.

On Wednesday morning I loaded one and a half tonne onto the trailer and forked it out into one tunnel, it was a very aromatic smell, steamy and warm.

After it was all spread, I rotovated and rolled, then we got three thousand spring cabbage planted.

The plants love the compost.

Every year we get around ten tonne in and spread it in every tunnel, all by fork.

So, I had half of one tunnel still needing done, so we could plant the rest of the cabbage.

Erin and Calum happily grabbed a fork each and started loading the trailer.

Then it was into the tunnel and of it came, it is that warm the steam is everywhere when we are forking it out in the tunnel, and you cannot see, it is a bit like thick fog.

Great for the tunnels, with that job done it was rotovate again, and we got the rest of the cabbage planted.

Then it was out to the field.

This year we have not had the best crop; the weather was not the best for pumpkins.

We do have around five hundred, they are not the biggest but look really good.

Two hours later and Three trailer we had all the pumpkins loaded and moved.

We put them onto pallets, to keep them of the ground, and put fleece over them to keep them good, they hate the frost.

This year we have them in between our tunnels.

The tunnels are all full and looking good, so we are going to have an open day and pumpkin selling on the same day.

The planned date so far is Sunday the 27th of October.

Erin and Calum are busy now painting up new signs for Pumpkin selling and farm open day.

Next week if the weather holds, Erin and Calum are going to help plant the remainder of the broad beans for the Field, if we get the weather that is them all planted.
