15th April

That has been another week of sunshine and heavy showers.

At least the heat has got up a wee bit and the tunnel crops are coming on.

But the field is still sitting in water, and we are no closer to getting the ploughing done.

With the heat getting up in the tunnels, all the plants we have sitting in trays are coming on great, but they need a field to get planted in.

Usually, I start planting in the field around the first week of May and it usually takes around two weeks to get them planted.

But if the rain stops this week, and we get wind and sunshine for a full week we could then plough.

That would put us into the last week of April.

After the ploughing I need to bedform for planting.                                                                     I need a week for ploughing and bed forming.

But the weather for next week is yet again sunshine and showers.

So, it does not look like we will be planting in the first week of May this year.

The weather for this week coming is forecast to be wet and windy yet again.

Fingers crossed for a high-pressure weather system coming in and sitting over us for 3 weeks, and we should get them all planted with some long hours.

In the meantime, I might take the plants out of the tunnels sooner than I would usually, this will slow them down and we should be fine.

We have in the past had the same weather coming up to planting time, so it is not that unusual.

We have a seed book which I write down the variety of seeds, amounts, date sown, and date planted, along with comments for, i.e.: old seed, conditions planted in, weather, etc.

Three years ago, we did not start planting until the third week of May.

So, at the moment there are no worries.
