15th July

Last week on the farm was mostly spent weeding out in the field.

I spent a couple of on the weeding machine, weeding in front of the bed weeding

It took a couple of days for me on the weeding machine because one of the front wheels of the machine had a seized bearing, with the bearing being seized, the rubber tyre kept coming of the wheel.

There are two small wheels on the front of the machine and these, help keep the weeder at the correct hight.

So it was up to the shed, and I stripped both wheels down, got the bearing sizes, then into Perth for four bearings, each wheel has two bearings.

These break downs are always a pain in the neck, as they usually waste and afternoon.

But machines only break down when they are working.

At the beginning of the season, we always go over every machine, each machine has loads of grease nipples that let you get grease into the moving parts.

We have a special tool that attaches to these grease nipples and we can pump grease in.

But things do break and need repaired.

We have now been over the whole field with the bed weeder twice, and the crops are looking pretty good, although slower growing this year with the colder than usual start.

At the end of the week, I bed formed more beds for planting this week.

On Monday Erin and Calum are coming in nice and early, we are going to plant thirty thousand over winter plants, in these beds that I prepared.

These are the late cabbage, kohl Rabi, over winter Cauliflower and purple sprouting broccoli.

We still have around three quarters of an acre left, I will prepare this and the last crop to be planted will be broad beans, we will get these planted in the last week of July.
