3rd March

Thats us well under way with the season now.

All the leeks early and late are blocked and in the tunnel plus the onions.

This week we will start blocking salad and brassicas.

Cosy tunnel one is fully planted out with Spring onions and Ruby chard, this is one of the big ninety-meter tunnel so there is ten thousand plants in there.

Tunnel one, these are the fifty meter tunnels it has spring cabbage in it which was planted around October, and they are coming on great.

Tunnel two is full of the leeks and onions.

And tunnel three we planted spinach, and I have ordered oriental salad mix which we will direct sow next week in here.

Cosy tunnel one still needs a bit of repair work before we re sheet that, it is the other ninety-meter tunnel, the two cosy tunnels polythene are held down by rope, so we can re sheet this as soon as we are ready.

We still have tunnel four and five to re sheet, these two tunnels are fifty meter long and the polythene is earthed in with these, so we do need a bit more head so we can get the polythene nice and tight.

I have the irrigation re paired and working in both the cosy tunnels and tunnels one, two and three, so these plants are now getting watered.

But Tunnels four and five the irrigation in both of these was blown to pieces after the wind destroyed their polythene.

Each tunnel has two lines of fifty meter of overhead irrigation.

All the new irrigation arrived last week for both of these, so that’s another job we will need to get to soon.

After the clean up when a storm has done its damage, it takes a bit of time to see what has been damaged with the framework and doors.

And it hasn’t been too bad, a few years ago we lost the frame of one tunnel, which is expensive and a lot more time consuming.

But this last storm only two tunnels framework needs repaired.

The cosy tunnel needs forty new screw in legs, not too bad considering there is two hundred and twenty two legs, plus three end hoops need a bit of repair.

Tunnel four is perfect although no polythene.

And tunnel five, needs new door framing on both ends and the ridge bar taken down and sorted out before putting back up, then it can get re sheeted.

Plenty to keep us busy.
