5th August

Over the last few weeks, I have been getting asked at the farmers markets if our beetroot is ready.

I am also asking the beetroot when it will be ready.

I had sown the beetroot, carrots, and neeps in May as per usual.

But I had to re sow the beetroot again, as the germination was very poor.

Due to the cold wet start.

But the beetroot is on its way, but it will still be around four weeks away.

The squash crops are now at long last looking like squash plants, and they have squash on their vines, again the plants look to be around four weeks behind.

But I do think they might catch up and we will be harvesting squash around the end of August into September.

Leeks and onions again a wee bit later than usual, but with being bed weeded three times now they are looking great.

Inside the tunnels the crops have now shot on, the cucumbers are producing like mad, and the few climbing French beans are heavy with beans but not quite enough for everyone.

Although we have sown dwarf French beans in the cosy tunnel, and there are a lot of them, we have a few plants with beans on them, but when they do start there will be more than enough for every customer.

We have sown another tunnel with more dwarf beans, and these are around two inches in hight, so they will be a nice later crop of beans.

The beans have a dual purpose, they produce a crop, but also fix nitrogen in the soil.

We have been doing this in different tunnels every year for a while now, and the crop that we plant after the beans is always amazing.
